Tasks from anywhere
Tasks isn’t an island. Work usually starts life somewhere else — a mail thread, a chat message — and Knobs lets you capture it right there, keeping a link back to the source. Dated tasks also show up on your calendar, and every task is searchable from anywhere.
From a mail conversation
Section titled “From a mail conversation”- Open the conversation in Mail.
- Click Add to Tasks in the toolbar above the reading pane.
- A confirmation appears; the new task lands in Tasks, titled from the thread and linked back to it.
From a chat message
Section titled “From a chat message”- Hover the message in Chat.
- Click Add to Tasks in the hover toolbar.
- The task is created from the message text, linked back to the conversation.
The source card
Section titled “The source card”A task created this way carries its origin with it:
- In the task list, a small chip next to the title shows the source’s name.
- In the detail panel, a Source card reads “Linked from mail” or “Linked from chat”, with the thread subject or message snippet — the receipt for where this work came from.
Tasks on your calendar
Section titled “Tasks on your calendar”Your dated tasks can sit alongside your events, so planning the day happens in one place:
- Open Calendar.
- In the sidebar, flip the Tasks switch on.
- Tasks with a due date appear on the grid in every view — month, week, day, and agenda.
- Click a task on the calendar to jump to the Tasks app.
Flip the switch off any time to see events alone.
Tasks in search
Section titled “Tasks in search”Task titles and content are indexed in workspace Search. Open search from anywhere, type what you remember, and use the Tasks type chip to narrow the results to tasks only.
Tasks over the API
Section titled “Tasks over the API”Everything above — creating tasks, source-linked creation from mail and chat, views, and lifecycle — is available programmatically. See the Tasks API reference.
