Threads

A thread is a side-conversation attached to one message. When a question spawns twelve replies, a thread keeps them together — and keeps the channel scannable for everyone else.

Reply in a thread

1. Hover the message you want to respond to.
2. Click Reply in thread in the hover toolbar.
3. The thread opens in the right pane — write your reply there.

In the channel, the original message grows a chip — “3 replies” — that anyone can click to open the thread and catch up.

Also send to channel

Sometimes a thread reply deserves the room’s attention. Tick Also send to channel when replying and your message appears both in the thread and in the main channel timeline — useful for surfacing a conclusion after a long thread discussion.

Following threads

You’re automatically subscribed to threads you start or reply in, and new replies notify you. That’s what makes threads work asynchronously: answer a question at 9, get pinged when the follow-up lands at 3.

Where threads live

• The right pane shows one thread at a time, alongside the channel — you don’t lose your place in the main conversation.
• Thread replies don’t clutter the channel timeline; only the root message (with its reply count) appears there, plus any replies explicitly sent to the channel.
• Deleting a root message leaves a placeholder, and its thread remains readable.

Tip

Use a thread whenever your reply is really for the person who asked, not the whole channel. The channel stays readable, and nobody has to scroll past a debugging session to find the announcement above it.
