Appearance & density

Two toggles control how Knobs looks: theme (light or dark) and density (comfortable or compact). Both live in the app shell, apply across every product instantly, and are remembered for your account.

Light & dark theme

Knobs ships a warm light theme and a matching dark theme.

1. Find the theme toggle in the left rail.
2. Click it to flip between light and dark.

The switch is instant — no reload — and applies to the entire suite: mail, docs, sheets, everything. Your choice persists across sessions and devices.

The iOS app carries the same two themes with a three-way setting — system, light, or dark — in the account sheet, so it can follow your phone’s appearance automatically. See Desktop & mobile apps.

Comfortable & compact density

Density controls how much breathing room the interface gets:

• Comfortable — the default: roomier rows and padding, easiest on the eyes.
• Compact — tighter rows and spacing, fitting noticeably more on screen. Handy for dense mail folders, long channel lists, and big sheets.

Flip it from the rail launcher — the switch icon near the bottom of the left rail — under Density. The label names the mode you would get, so “Compact” switches you to compact. Like the theme, it applies suite-wide immediately and is remembered.

Tip

Compact density pairs well with dark theme on smaller laptop screens — you get several extra rows of mail or chat without shrinking the text.

Where the toggles live

The theme toggle sits in the left product rail, below the product icons. Density lives one click deeper, in the rail launcher — the switch icon just above it. Opening the launcher also gives you search, your workspace list, and your recent activity, so it is the one control that reaches everything the shell offers from any product.

Mail and All Domains additionally carry a top bar with the theme toggle, search and the notification bell. Every other product draws its own header instead, and reaches those controls through the launcher.
