Create your account

Creating a Knobs account and creating your team’s workspace happen together. You pick your team’s subdomain, choose your own address on it, and that address becomes both your inbox and your login.

Sign up

1. Go to app.knobs.io and choose Create account.
2. Pick your workspace subdomain — e.g. acme gives your team acme.knobs.io. It’s live immediately; no DNS setup required.
3. Pick your address on that domain — e.g. jesse@acme.knobs.io. Knobs suggests formats like first.last and checks availability as you type.
4. Enter your name and choose a password.
5. Continue into onboarding, where you’ll add a recovery contact and can optionally connect a custom domain.

That’s the whole account: your knobs address is your identity across every workspace you join later. There is no separate “account email” — a personal email or phone number is stored only as a recovery contact.

You can also start with Continue with GitHub — you’ll land in the same onboarding wizard to pick your workspace and address.

Sign in

Signing in starts with your address:

1. Enter any of your knobs addresses — you@your-team.knobs.io or an address on your workspace’s custom domain — and choose Continue.
2. Knobs figures out your account and shows your available sign-in methods.
3. Sign in with your password, a passkey, or GitHub (if you’ve linked it).

If you’ve enrolled in two-factor authentication, you’ll be prompted for your authenticator code or SMS code after your first factor. See Account security.

Tip

Passkeys are the fastest way in — one touch with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device PIN, no password typed. Add one under Settings → Security once you’re signed in.

Forgot your password?

Choose Forgot password on the sign-in screen. Knobs sends a 6-digit code to one of your verified recovery contacts (personal email or phone) and lets you set a new password.

Recovery never goes through your knobs inbox — that’s the account you’re locked out of — which is why onboarding requires a verified recovery contact before you can start using the product.
