Compose & send

The composer opens as a dock in the corner of the Mail screen, so you can keep reading while you write. You can expand it to a larger pop-out or a focused writing view when a message needs more room.

Write a new message

Click Compose in Mail.
Add recipients in To — and Cc anyone who should be kept in the loop.
Write a subject and your message, then click Send.

The body is a rich-text editor: bold, italics, lists, links — the same editor you’ll recognize from Docs. Prefer plain email? Toggle Plain text in the composer to send without formatting.

Reply to a conversation

Reply from the reading pane and your message joins the existing conversation — threading is handled for you, and it stays intact for recipients on Gmail, Outlook, or any other mail client. Replies from outside land back in the same thread too.

Attachments

Drag files onto the composer, or click the attachment button to pick them. A few things worth knowing:

Attachments upload to Drive first, then ride along with the message — so your sent files are also kept in your workspace.
You can attach multiple files; the total is capped at 25 MB per message (a common limit for receiving mail servers).
Recipients get ordinary email attachments — nothing special is required on their end.

Dictate your message

Click the microphone button in the composer and speak — your words are transcribed into the body as you talk. Combine it with AI Correct (below) to clean up dictated text into polished prose.

Let AI help

Two AI actions live right in the composer:

Suggest reply drafts a response to the conversation you’re replying to. Add a short hint (“politely decline”, “ask for a timeline”) to steer it.
AI Correct improves your draft — fixing grammar, punctuation, and dictation artifacts while preserving your intent and tone.

Both put text into the composer for you to review and edit; nothing is sent until you click Send. See AI in Mail for details.
